I’m passionate about giving the SGMC Foundation because I need this hospital to thrive, not just for me, but my family, friends, and business.

Sue Cox, community philanthropist and SGMC Foundation donor, is adamant about her role at both downtown Valdosta restaurants – Covington’s Catering and 306 North. “We {Sue and her husband, Stan} are employees along with the dedicated staff members at our restaurants,” she expresses while arranging a floral display.  Having exceptional healthcare right here, close to home, has always been important to Sue. “Healthcare philanthropy is crucial for the success of our hospital and community. I want my families to have access to top-notch care whenever it’s needed,” she shares.

Sue credits SGMC for providing outstanding healthcare in different stages of her life. “Just a few years back, I gave birth to my children at our hospital,” she laughs at herself. She also recalls an instance where she packed a suitcase, walked from her Downtown Valdosta residence, and wheeled into the Hospital. “It was only a 30 minute walk and I rolled my suitcase through the doors of SGMC that day. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have a routine procedure in my hometown,” she shares.

Sue’s most recent health diagnosis requires her to travel for some appointments. Dr. Savita Bidyasar, Oncologist at SGMC’s Pearlman Cancer Center, works closely with the physicians who are continuing Sue’s treatment to ensure favorable results. Although traveling is necessary, Sue can still wheel her suitcase to SGMC in the event of an emergency.

“I’m passionate about giving to the SGMC Foundation because I need this hospital to thrive, not just for me, but my family, friends, and business,” Sue shares with a smile. SGMC is truly a life-saver for Sue, and her gifts to the Foundation are what she calls ‘investments in the healthcare expansions our community needs.’
